“Well, how can we find out?!” Hatch exclaimed.
“Send it to the subcommittee on reverse-default derivative trading. They have a team of quants to figure out these things. Then call for a hearing with the Federal Reserve and scream at Janet Yellen to explain why 54 is more than 45. She probably doesn’t know – I bet you can make her cry this time, Sir.”
“Good Plan!” replied Hatch. “It is about time we started making commonsense monetary policy in this country. If 54 goes around being more than 45 for just no good reason, well – the whole banking system could go under.”
SADLY, THIS QUESTION WAS NEVER ANSWERED. THE WORLD’S ENTIRE MONETARY SYSTEM FAILED AND PEOPLE HAD TO RESORT TO CANNIBALISM. NOT EVEN THE INVISIBLE HAND OF THE MARKET COULD HELP. IF ONLY THE SCHOOL HAD BOTHERED TO ASK WHY 54 WAS MORE THAN 45 THIS ENTIRE TRAGEDY COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
